Biography

Italian-American Soprano Victoria Isernia is celebrated for her rich, sultry voice, praised for her “good acting instincts” and described as “engaging to watch” (Utah Theatre Bloggers). In the upcoming 2025–2026 season, she will make her mainstage debut with First Coast Opera as Pitti-Sing in The Mikado and take on the role of Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti with Amelia Island Opera. The 2024–2025 season featured two notable role debuts: Judith in Bluebeard’s Castle with Bold City Opera and Hansel in Hansel & Gretel with Amelia Island Opera. Recent highlights include her debut performances as Mrs. Nolan in Menotti’s The Medium and Musetta in La Bohème with Amelia Island Opera. She also appeared as Autumn in John De Los Santos’ Service Provider, directed by the librettist himself. In 2023, she returned to the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre stage, performing as Bet in Oliver! (Nancy Cover) and The Lady in the Balcony (Mrs. Gibbs Cover) in Rorem’s Our Town.

Equally accomplished in opera and musical theatre, Isernia maintains a diverse repertoire spanning both genres. From 2020 to 2023, she served as a Resident Artist with Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, where she delivered a series of acclaimed performances. Among her most significant achievements there was her role debut as Carmen in Carmen in their 2022 season. Previous engagements with the company showcased her versatility, including appearances in The Magic Flute (Third Lady) and She Loves Me (Ilona Cover).

An alumna of the Manhattan School of Music, Isernia studied under the esteemed Maitland Peters. While there, she performed leading roles in Dido & Aeneas (Dido) and L’incoronazione di Poppea (Nerone), both under the direction of internationally acclaimed soprano Catherine Malfitano. She also appeared in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, portraying the Forrester’s Wife.

A dedicated interpreter of the works of Gilbert & Sullivan, Isernia has appeared in numerous productions of their operettas, including The Mikado (Pitti-Sing) with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Patience (Lady Jane), and The Gondoliers (Tessa). Her extensive scene work includes roles such as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Mercedes in Carmen, and the Third Woodsprite in Rusalka. In 2013, she made her Lincoln Center debut under the baton of Maestro Alan Gilbert, performing in the choir for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the New York Philharmonic.

Notable musical theatre credits include Disney’s Beauty & the Beast (Belle), Bye Bye Birdie (Kim), Hairspray (Velma Von Tussle), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Rona), and Sarah in Stephen Sondheim’s Company with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.
